Super-Mom

I have a little story. Its about what truly makes a Super-Mom. Its not the ability to hold a baby, talk on the phone and fold clothes at the same time. Its not the perfect balance of time spent nurturing children, making a living and saving the world. Its not leaping tall buildings in a single bound. Its so much simpler than that.

Yesterday, I attended a Volunteer Tea at my sons' school. Essentially, parents who have volunteer throughout the year are invited to drink coffee and eat cake while students entertain with singing, dancing and telling jokes. Good times!

So, we all had our treats, and were waiting while the first performers took the stage. Kindergarten. The Moms at my table were giggling and commenting on the blank, glazed look on the faces of these young singers. The music started, the children began to sing, and then, a Mom, who had positioned herself close in front on the floor to take pictures of her son, threw her camera to the floor and flew through the air. Before anyone knew what was happening, she had her son in her arms and was out the gym door. Superman could not have performed this maneuver faster or smoother.

Maybe he was really nervous about singing in front of the crowd. Maybe he was not feeling well to begin with. Whatever the reason, he got dizzy, turned green and almost fainted. The amazing thing is that he didn't call out to her, or motion to her, and he never even hit the ground. She knew, just by looking at him, she knew.

We all have difficult days, we all make our own mistakes when it comes to parenting, and once in a while, we feel like we are not doing enough. Just remember, knowing what they need before they need it, knowing what to do the moment you need to do it, being there to catch them before they fall. That's what makes a Super-Mom!

(PS: Its not just Moms. I have witnessed Dads performing these heroic acts, as well!)

Such a great story. Love it!

It's such a shame that moms are so hard on themselves sometimes. This is a great reminder.

Ya great post. You are so right. they never remember all the things we think are important but they do remember the times you were there for them when they needed you.

PS thanks for not forgetting the Dads
