So, today I am finishing some final preparations for our vacation, and working on a project that will not be done before I leave. It has been an exhausting week for me, and an even more tiring one for my husband. We will be so glad to be in the car on the way to the airport, not to mention actually being away.
1) Being married can be hard. Compromising. Sharing. Making space for someone else's stuff. (Among many other, more important challenges.) But I love being married! One of the many reasons is this. When someone attacks me in any way, my husband is right there, ready to defend me, ready to support me, ready to take a shot at someone if need be. (He's not a fighter, at all!) And when someone wrongs him, I feel the same way. It hurts my heart to know he is distressed by someone else's thoughtlessness or stupidity. Just saying...
2) It is -12C here in Calgary, and 12C in San Diego. Just saying...
3) I am going to turn 40 next week. It doesn't bother me that much. My uncle is turning 90 in April. 90!!! My grandparents on my Dad's side lived into their 90s, and my grandmother on my Mom's side was in her mid-80s. Although I know anything can happen, I'm feeling pretty good about my genetic disposition. Just saying...
4) I am making a commitment to really, truly enjoy this vacation. It is not easy to do with 3 children. Being away involves much of the same work as being at home. But, Paul and I have been so busy in the past couple months, and our children have been neglected in the process. Thank goodness they are amazing, independent children, but they deserve our full attention on this trip. So, I have decided not to blog or twitter-book while we are away. Full vacation recap to come when we get back.
5) Finally, here is the video from the most recent momcafe event. I had a hard time getting this one done, cuz I couldn't edit with my kids around...

Darn. I really wish I could have gone to that Mom Cafe event. Looks like it was a good one! I think it's awesome that you and Paul have each other's backs. They should really write that into the marriage vows, should they? I promise to love, honour and obey and kick anyone's ass who wrongs you...
I am very excited for your vacation and I have a feeling the kids are going to be extra relaxed and joyful because you guys will be. And if it gets stressful at any time......say....at LAX....then just think to yourself. At least we're not looking at ICE and SNOW!
HAVE FUN ON YOUR VACATION!! Can't wait to hear all about it when you get back. Sounds like you guys definitely deserve a break. ENJOY.
As for the upcoming birthday, I say 'forty, shmorty'. You'll always be 29 in my books. :)
(And PS - another great vid!)
Omigod - have FUN on your vacation! Can't wait to see pics and hear about it afterwards. And I now know what you mean about vacation + kids! Not the same...still wonderful, but soooo not the same. You deserve the break, badly. So enjoy your techno free time, take it all in, and document it afterwards :-)
